The Rione Fornelle
The Rione Fornelle, one of the oldest neighborhoods in Salerno, saw the birth and upbringing of the poet Alfonso Gatto. Once, the walls and streets were marked by the saltiness of the city's promenade; today, transformed into splendid open-air poetic representations, they capture the attention of visitors.
Despite maintaining its niche neighborhood identity, the Rione Fornelle has regained charm, attracting passersby fascinated by the contrast between modern street art and the authentic local populism.
Through the "Muri d'Autore" project, carried out in collaboration with the Alfonso Gatto Foundation, Italian and foreign artists, including Ivan Tresoldi and Carlos Atoche, revitalized the facades of the neighborhood's buildings with a series of vibrant murals and poetic verses. Thanks to this initiative, the Rione has acquired a new identity, becoming a point of reference for urban, cultural, and touristic attractions.
